Interra ITR Universal Relay Review

Summary

The Interra ITR series are trusty 16amp multi-functional KNX relays designed specifically for use within smart homes automated buildings. They are versatile as they are capable of running lights, heating, blinds, and shutters.  You cannot go wrong with these devices. They have proved their reliability to us across our many years of supplying and servicing Interra products.

Available in an impressive range of variants – 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24-way – the Interra ITR series ensures that there’s a perfect fit for projects of any size. This flexibility allows system integrators and installers to select the most appropriate relay configuration, optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the automation system in place.

I really appreciate programming these relays due to simple, yet comprehensive ETS parameters and data points. They also have inbuilt logic and converters which can process any telegram from any device on the KNX network. Your imagination can go wild! For example, you could convert a 1 bit telegram to a 1 byte telegram or convert an off to an on for multiple situations! Having one or more of these devices in a project you can drastically reduce the need for a separate logic controller. Interra’s innovative approach to programming up is a refreshing take on KNX relays. The Interra relays also work well for the installer as the manual control allows relay channels to be tested without a live KNX bus or any programming.

However, it’s worth mentioning a minor critique regarding the physical design of the relays. The size uniformity across different variants – with 4-way relays being the same size as 8-way ones, and 12-way relays mirroring the dimensions of 16-way models – might be seen as a drawback in terms of space optimization. This aspect could influence the choice of relay for installations where space is at a premium.

Despite this, the Interra ITR series relays currently remain a top recommendation for almost every installation project I undertake. All in all, I will continue to use and recommend this product in nearly every install I am part of.
