Multimedia control has been a part of KNX and Zennio products for a while, allowing users to control select sound systems, either through products that integrate a sound system into KNX or by using sound systems like Trivium that have built-in communication with KNX via IP. However, with Zennios’ 4.3 update to their Z50, Z70 v2 & Z100 panels, you can now automatically integrate any Sonos device on your network with one of these panels. From their most affordable portable speakers to their amps.

In the new update Zennio added a new control block called “multimedia control” that can either be used for more straightforward control of non-Sonos audio systems or, by ticking a box, can be used as a more in-depth controller for Sonos speakers. Upon downloading this control, it will automatically connect to any Sonos device on your network. The rest of the setup is done on the Sonos app, where you can add favourite audiobooks, radio stations and playlists which you will be able to see on the panel. You can also select which speakers you would like to play audio through directly on the panel now.

With this connection we can integrate the Sonos system into any part of a KNX installation, from a regular switch to including different playlists into scenes. In our test runs we had set up a “romance” scene that dimmed the lights down to 30%, closed the curtains and turned on a smooth jazz playlist. Aswell as a “reading” scene that turned on certain lights, put on a subtle ambient noise and turned on the heating.
